![]() ![]() ![]() Some years ago, I wrote a short film that, sadly, isn't online or I'd show you. TL DR: Mickey Rooney is the only recipient of both the Juvy (mini) and Oscar Award (full), and given history and odds, it's unlikely that anyone else will ever repeat this. And Slim just left with the Oscar.įinally, Mickey received his Oscar as an honorary award (still a bonafide Oscar), and basically beat those exceptionally long odds by going on to have a career that combined incredible longevity (spanning across 10 decades which is totally ridiculous) and relevance (also won 2 Golden Globes and an Emmy). But let's say that somehow you do maintain a decent career, you get a shot at a performance that will get noticed, what are the odds you get an Academy Award? Slim to none. In other words, once you become a child prodigy, forget about attaining higher levels - or even maintaining that level of critical acclaim - just sustaining a viable Hollywood career seems like long odds for must child stars (think about how many "where are they now" stories there are). Now add to that most child stars (and not just any child actor mind you, you've really got to be something extraordinary to get this thing as per the Academy) end up getting typecast, burn out or Lindsay Lohan-ing off the deep end (case in point, do a quick read of every recipient of the Juvy award, just about everyone except for Mickey Rooney went on to have careers of relative obscurity / irrelevance). Think about the fact that the Academy has only given out 12 Juvenile awards since the tradition began in 1935 (nearly 80 years) and the last one was given out 50 years ago. This is kind of cool on a number of levels:ġ) Because it's just some random Oscar trivia you can throw down out of nowhere and True Fact: Mickey Rooney is the only recipient of both the Juvenile Oscar and full Oscar awards. ![]()
